Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!!
I just had to let you know, that after attending the
BEST in-service ever, even with it being a "snow day",
that things are really hopping at Riverside Elementary,
at least in the 5th grade! I came back and made up a
multiple jingle, as well as a factor jingle. Our
students love it! We have marched, thrown balls,
clapped, and sang our way through finding LCMs and
reducing. My greatest thrill was getting to show the
parents of my special education, major behavior problem,
student that he knew the jingles, as well as the hand
motions. He doesn't know what to do with them, but at
least when we are up and around the room, he is not
making noises and distracting all the other children.
He only has social studies with my classroom and I have
to come up with extra work to keep him occupied while I
am teaching math and reading. I have shared his success
with the special ed. teacher, guidance counselor,
principal, and of course, my friends in 5th grade. Your
workshop was the best! Thanks for putting up with us
here in Columbia!
